Nuala Nolan co-opted to Galway City Council

Nuala Nolan is the new Labour councillor for the Galway City East ward, having been chosen by the party last Tuesday to replace Derek Nolan who is now TD for Galway West.

Both Nolans - neither of whom is related to the other - ran in the 2009 local elections and Ms Nolan will be taking over the seat vacated by Dep Nolan after an inauguration ceremony at City Hall tomorrow (Friday ).

Ms Nolan was chosen to replace Dep Nolan last Friday following a keenly contested Labour Party selection convention, which was also contested by Anne Costello, Pat Hardiman, PJ Mullen, and Labour Party Secretary Alan Sheerins.

An avid Facebook-er, Ms Nolan sings with the Galway Choral Association. She is a former decorator with Royal Tara China and now works for Boston Scientific in Ballybrit. She is also involved in the Western Family History Association.

“I am thrilled and honoured to be representing Labour and the people of Galway City East,” said Ms Nolan after the convention. “I hope to work closely with Derek Nolan TD and my fellow Labour Party colleagues for the betterment of Galway city, especially councillor Tom Costello, sitting councillor for the east ward.”
