Pets do ferry well travelling by sea

Pets prefer ferry travel, if carryings by Irish Ferries during 2010 are a guide.

Last year, dogs, cats and ferrets were the three most popular species of pets carried on their Ireland/French service under the popular pet passport scheme.

Other pet passengers carried during the year - some under special licence - included two seals, one eagle, two penguins and a number of pet chickens, all carried in cages like other pet birds.

Commenting, Irish Ferries head of passenger sales Declan Mescall says it “shows how popular ferry travel has become when even the birds prefer it to flying”.
