On Saturday March 5, a group of event management students from Galway Community College will run a five-a-side soccer tournament in aid of the Galway Hospice Home Care and Day Care services .The tournament will kick off at 1pm in Drom AstroTurf Grounds, home of Salthill Devon.
The project started off as a group assignment but it is becoming an opportunity to give back to the local community by doing some charity fundraising work. There has been much interest in the event and it promises to be a fun-filled day with friends of the students also assisting them to help such a worthy cause. The Galway Hospice Home Care and Day Care services cost €1.5 million every year to provide and these vital services depend entirely on voluntary contributions.
Michelle Moran and Letitia O’Regan have been planning this event since October 2010. Ms Moran says: “We’ve been amazed by the support we have received, especially in these difficult times. Our sponsors Tom Sheridan’s Bar and Restaurant Knocknacarra have been very generous, as too has JP Duffy, manager of Drom. Their support and kindness is greatly appreciated”
The cost of entry is €60 per team of seven, including two substitutes, with a three-game minimum guarantee. The awards presentation will be held in Tom Sheridan’s after the tournament with complimentary finger food provided for all participants.
