Last chance to create a Super Garden

The popular gardening show Super Garden, co-sponsored by Woodie’s DIY and Growise from Bord na Móna, is returning to RTÉ this May and is seeking the last entries for amateur gardeners and garden makeover candidates for the series. All applications must be in by February 13.

Super Garden will follow five amateur garden designers who will makeover a garden and compete to showcase their work at the 2011 Bloom Festival. Each episode of the series focuses on the efforts of one contestant. With just five weeks to design and build the gardens, contestants must comply with budget constraints and the owners’ brief.

“Super Garden is an excellent opportunity for both those who seek a garden makeover and those who would like to pursue a career in gardening,” said Ray Colman, CEO of Woodie’s DIY and Garden Centres. “Woodie’s DIY continues to support Irish gardening by sourcing over 95 per cent of the plants sold in Woodie’s stores nationwide from Irish nurseries, and now through the sponsorship of Super Garden which will allow one amateur gardener to take their first steps into professional gardening at Bloom 2011.”

Amateur gardeners who feel they have what it takes to become the next super gardener can email [email protected] and explain why they love garden design and what their dream design would be.

Gardens in desperate need of a makeover and deserving of some TLC can be nominated for a garden makeover by emailing [email protected] with a photo of the garden and an answer to the following question: How would you like to use your garden when it is transformed?

The winner of Super Garden will be announced on the sixth and final episode of the series, when all the designers and judges will meet. The prize will be awarded to the contestant voted Super Garden designer 2011, who will recreate the winning garden design at the prestigious Bloom Garden Festival in June 2011.

Super Garden is produced by Vision Independent Productions (VIP ), an Irish based company that develops entertainment and lifestyle shows such as The Restaurant and Operation Transformation for RTÉ.
