“Having been successful in delivering for communities in the Tuam electoral area I believe that I can also deliver at national level for Galway East.”
This is the view of Independent councillor Seán Canney, who this week has announced his decision to contest the General Election in Galway East.
Based in the Tuam electoral area, he was first elected to the Galway County Council in 2004 and was re-elected in 2009, topping the poll with the highest number of first preference votes in the entire county.
“My decision follows on from a consultation process with family, friends, and supporters,” he said. “My decision is based on the fact that the party political system has failed the Irish people and there is an outcry for change in representation.”
Cllr Canney believes Ireland needs “fresh ideas and a willingness to work for the good of our people”. He said: “I would encourage everyone to exercise their right to vote and help me make a change.”
