Quarter century in business for Peter Murphy Electrical

Peter Murphy Electrical is celebrating 25 years in business in their shop in Westside this year and tomorrow Friday Seán Bán Breathnach will broadcast his Raidió na Gaeltachta programme SBB Tráthnóna from the shop, and one lucky listener will finish the programme one 42’ Panasonic TV richer, thanks to Peter Murphy’s generosity.

Peter Murphy Electrical is a Galway institution, with the shop now selling to the 3rd generation of loyal customers since Peter Murphy’s first days in the business in Naughton’s in Shop St. Mr Murphy is a Mayo man who moved to Salthill in 1949. He spent thirty years working in and managing the electrical department in Naughton’s before setting up by himself in Westside at the end of 1985.

His sons, Peter and Paul, now handle most of the management of the shop, and their loyal customer base includes many customers from Connemara, some of them grandchildren of Peter Murphy’s customers in those early years whose family loyalty still lies with the shop.

On Friday 28 January Seán Bán will bring his afternoon Raidió na Gaeltachta show to the shop to celebrate a quarter century in business there. Box player Colm Gannon will entertain shoppers on the day, and there will be lots of spot prizes. Anyone who has been shopping in Peter Murphy in the last few weeks will have had the chance to enter for three prizes to be drawn on the day as well. Raidió na Gaeltachta will be there with hats and t-shirts for all, so pop along if you’re in the area on Friday
