THE GALWAY based art organisation MART is seeking support and donations from the public for a major exhibition to showcase Irish artists’ work in the USA.
Invite Or Reject is the title of a new exhibition from the art organisation MART. Curated by MART’s Ciara Scanlan and Matthew Nevin, it will feature work by 13 leading Irish artists on display in major contemporary art galleries in New York, Chicago, and LA.
The exhibition will explore issues such as Irish immigration to America, the discrimination immigrants faced, and the current political and social climate in America where it is difficult to gain an entry visa to work there.
MART has asked artists to submit work that is “challenging yet irresistibly welcoming for American audiences” and will showcase the best of contemporary Irish art to US audiences.
However to make this exhibition happen, MART is calling on the Galway public to help with the fundraising needed for the exhibition.
As such, donations to help the exhibition can be made through Kickstarter. Kickstarter is a form of ‘crowd funding’ where people network and pool their money and other resources together, usually via the internet, to support efforts initiated by other people or organisations.
People can log onto www.kickstarter.com pledge to anything between $5 and $5,000+ with rewards being granted to the doner.
Every pledge results in the person making the donation being signed up to the MART newsletter, receiving Facebook and Twitter updates, and a printable MART sticker. Other pledges will give donors a MART Dice, DVDs, T-shirts, photographs, or VIP Treatment at one of MART’s shows, etc.
The public can also make donations by visiting the MART website at www.mart.ie and clicking on the Kickstarter link. People can help spread the word by joining MART’s Facebook and Twitter groups.
MART seeks to educate and promote art, particularly art in new media, installation art, and performance art to the public. It is an Irish based non-profit art organisation which is supported by the Galway City Council.
