THE SCATTERING is Sean Keane’s musical journey along the Rhine with St Columbanus, across Australia, and onto the barricades of labour protest in the United States - told through the songs of Irish emigrants.
Sean will perform The Scattering in The Town Hall on Friday October 31 and Saturday November 1 at 8pm. On the nights, Sean will perform songs and tell stories about emigration and Irish emigrants - their adventures, triumphs, sorrows, and experiences.
“There will be about 25 songs on the night as well as the stories I have come across of the emigrants who were successful and those who endured failure,” Sean told me. “It’s a kind of a celebration of the Irish diaspora. It starts back in the sixth century with a piece written by St Columbanus called ‘Carmen Nauale’. It’s a chant he wrote going up the Rhine to encourage his monks to row harder. We’re also going to look at the Spanish connections with Ireland so there will be Spanish and sean nós dancers performing.”
