Only one bus stop for Bothar Uí Eithir/Forster Street bus lane

There will only be one recessed bus stop on the new Bothar Uí Eithir/Forster Street bus lane, following talks between City Hall and two bus companies.

The inclusion of recessed bus stops, to cater for both Bus Éireann and Burke’s Bus, forms part of the new bus lane and bus priority measures for Bothar Uí Eithir and Forster Street.

However councillors are concerned to keep busses on the lane moving, rather than have them stopping. As a result they called for the bus stops to be omitted and for the design to be changed to take out the recessed sections.

The matter came up for discussion at Monday’s city council meeting and councillors were informed that it was the Department of the Environment, not City Hall, that issues licenses to the bus companies, and that part of that licence allows for them to use the bus stops.

Following negotiations with the bus companies City Hall will be able to remove one of the bus stops from the area and councillors agreed to this going ahead.
