Galwayman Derek O’Connor won the Point to Point Award at Horse Racing Ireland’s annual awards in the Leopardstown Pavilion.
This is the fourth time O’Connor has won the award, voted on on by the Irish racing media. O’Connor has long been recognised as one of the best amateur jockeys Ireland has produced in recent decades.
At the end of the 2009-10 season O’Connor was the northern, southern, western and overall champion - a feat no other rider has achieved. He is the most successful rider in the history of Point to Point and is on the way towards his 650th winner between the flags.
