Five youth cafes in Galway city and country are to receive major funds ranging from €3,500 to €40,000, according to Fianna Fáil Galway West TD Frank Fahey.
Two of the cafés are located in Galway city. The Youth Space Galway at Cathedral Square has been granted €40,000 while The Gaf Youth Cafe on Francis Street is to get €9,718.
The Colour Crave Youth Cafe at the Clann Resource Centre on Camp Street in Oughterard has been allocated €3,000. Sign Out Youth Cafe, St Brigid’s Road, Portumna, and Crib na nÓg at Halla Einne, An Cheathrú Rua, will each get €3,500.
“This is great news for young people in Galway who deserve a safe environment to relax and socialise,” said Dep Fahey. “Youth cafes are a major asset to our society. They provide a social outlet for young people who may otherwise be at a loss.”
Dep Fahey has also praised the work of Foróige, Youth Work Ireland, the Youth Company, and the Galway Vocational Education Committee which “work to improve the lives of young people”. He added: “The Government is committed to supporting them in their work.”
