New language exchange night in Galway

Local Galway residents Jack Kinsella and Una Timlin recently set up a language exchange meetup where language lovers, Galwegians, and visitors from all walks of life can come together. The first night was held in Kelly's on Monday October 25.

Prior to the event the organisers assigned one language to each table with little flags indicating the tongue spoken, with tables for Irish, English, French, Spanish, German, Italian, Portuguese, Polish, Chinese, Russian, and Japanese. Once the attendees arrived they were free to sit where they liked and switch tables as their linguistic talents fancied.

The night was a roaring success and some 50 people from all around the world attended.

Both Kinsella and Timlin independently came up with idea to hold a language night, having seen similar communities thrive abroad. Both were in the process of trying to market the event and arrange a venue when their paths collided, and from there they worked together to make the night happen.

If you are interested in meeting other learners or speakers of French, Mandarin, Spanish, Polish, Gaeilge, English, or any other language, make new friends, and exchange ideas, then go along to the next event at 8pm on Monday November 22 in Kelly's Bar
