Coláiste Chonnacht will celebrate its centenary on Saturday evening with the launch of a new book.
Padraig Ó hAoláin, the chief executive officer of Údarás na Gaeltachta, will launch the new book, Coláiste Chonnacht 1910-2010, which commemorates the centenary of the Spiddal Irish College/
The book contains the story and history of the Irish college in 13 chapters with hundreds of photographs - some of which date fromn the first day of the college in August 1910.
Courses have been held in the college every summer since it first started as a training college for Irish language teachers.
More than 50,000 students have passed through the doors of the college since its foundation. Memories from past students and teachers are described in the book, as is the important role the college played in the life of local people and the economy of the area.
Among the writers to have penned articles areProfessor Nollaig Mac Congáil, Máire Ní Neachtain, Padraig Breatnach, Seán Ó Neachtain and Colm Ó Ceallaigh.
The function takes place in Óstán na Páirce next Saturday at 7pm. The book will be available for sale on the night and afterwards in local shops .
