Claregalway jockey killer to be sentenced

A date has been set for the sentencing hearing of a British man convicted of killing Claregalway jockey Jamie Kyne.

Peter Brown (37 ) of Brotherton, North Yorkshire, was convicted at Leeds Crown Court in May this year of the manslaughter of the 18-year-old Kiltrogue native and fellow apprentice jockey, Jan Wilson (19 ).

Brown was found guilty of killing the promising young apprentice jockeys in a blaze which broke out at a block of flats in Norton, North Yorkshire, in September 2009, after he was refused entry to a party.

Following a lengthy trial Brown was convicted of their manslaughter but cleared of murder and arson with intent to endanger life. Delays in the sentencing hearing are believed to be due to a request for a psychologist report on Brown.

North Yorkshire Police have now confirmed that Brown will be sentenced at Leeds Crown Court on Friday December 10.
