Mervue United continue their remarkable run of form and are almost guaranteed a play-off with the bottom team in the first division.
Sunday’s game against Shamrock Rovers saw them take the lead on 15 minutes when Ollie Keogh pulled back from the endline for Dave Goldbey to score his 10th goal of the season.
Mervue were well in control throughout and Goldbey added a second from the penalty spot on 32 minutes.
Playing with the wind at their backs in the second half, Mervue keeper Brian Donoghue was rarely troubled and it was no surprise that Eric Browne added a third goal when the Shamrock Rovers’ goalkeeper spilled a corner on 60 minutes. Mervue continued to pile on the pressure and David O’Brien unleashed a spectacular shot from 30 yards which flew into the roof of the net.
Rynal Browne and Gary Traynor were outstanding for Mervue in the middle of the park, while Mike Tierney was their most creative player on the day.
