The Mayor of Galway Cllr Padraig Conneely, launched the sixth annual Mayor’s Awards in City Hall on Tuesday and called on the public to nominate the most deserving groups and individuals for an award.
The Mayor’s Awards acknowledge people and organisations who, through their commitment to participating in unpaid community and voluntary activities, have had a significant impact on the quality of life of their communities in Galway city.
Nominations are invited from people resident in Galway city in the following categories: Arts, culture, heritage, and cursai Gaeilge; Local environment, neighbourhood and residents’ groups; Social and community support; Positive ageing; Sports, recreation, children, and youth; and Young Volunteer of the Year.
There will be a Galway Crystal trophy and a cheque for €700 for the winner in each category. St Columba’s, Naomh Padraig, and St Anthony’s & The Claddagh credit unions have come together as joint sponsors of the event and will also sponsor the Galway City Credit Unions Volunteer of Year Award.
