ELI parents launch new early language service

Parents and former staff from the Early Language Intervention service in Oranmore have come together to launch a new community-based pre-school service to replace the company, which ceased trading recently.

The Children’s Language Development Project will open on Monday September 8 in Moyville, Oranmore. The service will be run on a non-profit basis and will provide language support to children between the ages of two and six.

The new project will be open to any children who have a language difficulty, from autism spectrum disorder, Down syndrome, or a language delay.

The Children’s Language Project will offer children a structured approach to language learning, including Applied Behavioural Analysis for children with autism. ABA is a formalised method of instruction that is provided with a student to staff ratio of 1:1.

The service will be provided by staff with various qualifications in psychology, childcare, and education, and experience in language development. The centre plans to collaborate on an ongoing basis with local speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, and behavioural analysts in the development and delivery of its programmes to the attending children. The centre currently has places available for this autumn.

Parents and staff are actively fundraising to commence this project in September, and the facility also plans to apply for charity status. All donations are greatly appreciated. For more information on the centre’s activities and to pledge donations, contact Joan on (087 ) 7882073.
