The face of this year’s Galway International Oyster Festival will be selected on September 11 at a glittering gala banquet to be held in tTe Ardilaun Hotel.
This year’s winner will receive a beautiful string of cultured pearls, a cheque for €500, a specially commissioned crystal trophy, a Lancôme Presentation Coffret, Aer Arann travel vouchers, an elegant watch from Fallers Jewellers and a Bellissimo Pamper Hamper.
Announcing this year’s competition, Festival Administrator Ann Flanagan said that the Oyster Pearl has been an integral part of the Galway International Oyster Festival since its inception in 1954.
“The Oyster Pearl presides over all the Festival events and is the main focus of media and public attention for the duration of the Festival. From Peggy Carty O’ Brien in 1954 to the 2007 Oyster Pearl Ann Marie Mitchell, the festival has attracted many talented young women to enter the competition.”
This year’s festival will take place from Thursday September 25 to Sunday 28. In the region of 12,000 visitors are expected to visit the city for the four day festival, consuming over 100,000 oysters and the festival is worth an estimated €8m to the local economy.
