Quilts, art, and workshops in Galway City Museum

The Galway City Museum is hosting a quilting exhibition from the North of Ireland, artwork by Cecil Maguire, and workshops for younger visitors keen to keep busy during the mid-term break.

The museum is currently displaying an exhibition by Ulster quilters, based on the artwork of one of Ireland’s finest artists - Cecil Maguire. As part of the exhibition four pieces of artwork by Maguire are on display. Three of his pieces are on loan to the Museum for the duration of the exhibition.

The exhibition will run until the second week of November and is situated in the Museum’s top gallery. Many of Maguire’s scenes are of the West of Ireland, and the Northern quilters have donated to the museum a scene based on his famous depiction of Claddagh Quay.

The museum will also host two workshops for primary school children. On Wednesday October 27, Breandán Ó hEaghra will hold a bilingual workshop based on Pádraic Ó Conaire’s famous story, M’asal Beag Dubh. On Thursday 28 and Friday 29, Brendan McGowan will host a workshop on the theme of the Claddagh cottages.

Both workshops will be held at 12 noon and are free of charge but places should be booked in advance by calling 091 - 532460.
