Galway man faces sentencing for sexual assault of minors

A 37-year-old Galway man has admitted sexually assaulting a young boy for more than two years at a house on the west of the city and will now face a sentencing hearing in early December.

The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared at Galway Circuit Criminal Court last Tuesday where he was arraigned and pleaded guilty to the charge of sexually assaulting a boy between January 1, 2005, and June 1, 2007 at an address in the city, contrary to Section 2 of the Criminal Law (Rape ) Act.

The court heard that the accused has already pleaded guilty at a previous sitting to a charge of sexually assaulting a young girl at the same address on unknown dates between January 1, 2005, and December 31, 2006, contrary to Section 2 of the Criminal Law (Rape ) Act.

Judge Raymond Groarke adjourned the case for sentencing and for a victim impact report to December 1 in respect all charges.
