The Dubliners will play a fundraising concert on Sunday October 17 at the Radisson Blu Hotel in aid of Taibhdhearc na Gaillimhe.
An Taibhdhearc was founded in 1928 by Micheál MacLiammóir and Hilton Edwards, and for decades was the national theatre for Irish language plays and productions. It was also a popular venue for readings and concerts.
However the building in Middle Street was badly damaged in a fire more than two years and has remained closed. It is estimated that at least €1 million is needed to re-open the theatre and next month’s concert by The Dubliners will help raise funds for the renovation project.
The Dubliners line-up is Barney McKenna, John Sheahan, Eamonn Campbell, Patsy Watchorn, and Galwegian Seán Cannon. It will be the band’s first show in Galway in eight years.
Doors will open at 7pm and the show starts at 8pm. There will be special guests on the night. Tickets are priced €40 (subject to booking fee ) from An Taibhdhearc (091 - 563600 ); Radisson Blu Hotel (091 - 538300 ); Ticketmaster and www.ticketmaster.ie (0810 - 719300 ); and Zhivago Music Galway.
