Students urged to apply for maintenance grants

The NUI, Galway Students’ Union is urging students to apply for maintenance grants “as soon as possible”.

New measures were introduced this year to alleviate the problems with delays and bureaucracy, including an online application process, and the advance payment of grants to awarding authorities. Despite this, the Students’ Union is urging all students to submit their applications immediately.

“I urge all students to apply for their grant as soon as possible,” said NUIG SU president Peter Mannion. “Although the maintenance grant goes nowhere near the cost of covering third level education, it is still a lifeline for thousands of students who depend on it and cannot afford to wait months for their application to be processed.”

Students who wish to apply for a grant or check their eligibility should go to www.studentfinance.ie for further information.
