Diabetes will come under the spotlight this weekend when leading experts in the care and management of the condition will meet to discuss the latest treatments and explore ways to achieve better outcomes for sufferers.
Local heart charity Croi in association with the HSE West Diabetes Services’ advisory group will host the inaugural west of Ireland integrated diabetes care conference at the Radisson SAS Hotel on Friday and Saturday. The event has been made possible by an unconditional education grant from MSD Schering-Plough.
The conference entitled “Working together to enhance diabetes care in the west” will bring together GPs, consultants, practice nurses, public health nurses, dieticians, chiropodists and other health care professionals. It will provide opportunities to network and explore options to achieve the best outcome for people living with diabetes.
The event will be officially opened on Saturday morning by Professor Tim O’Brien, a consultant endocrinologist at University Hospital Galway. Local speakers will include consultant endocrinologists, Dr Sean Dinneen, Dr Fidelma Dunne and Dr Maeve Durkan and Helen Burke, advanced nurse practitioner in diabetes at University Hospital Galway.
