On Monday at 9pm TV3 will broadcast Jack Taylor, the feature length drama adaptation of The Guards, the acclaimed novel from the award winning Galway novelist Ken Bruen.
Jack Taylor stars Scottish actor Iain Glen, best known for his roles in Law and Order, as the tough ex-Garda of the title and it was shot in Galway city and county.
This story sees Jack asked to find a distraught mother’s missing daughter, but what he uncovers in the process makes everything he believes in begin to unravel, and even makes him suspicious of those close to him.
Jack Taylor also stars Ralph Brown (Withnail and I, Life On Mars, Waking the Dead ) as Jack’s sidekick Sutton; Tara Breathnach (The Tudors ), and Galwegian Norah-Jane Noone (The Magdalen Sisters, Coronation Street ).
The script was adapted from the novel by Anne McCabe, Tom Collins, and Ralph Christians. It is directed by Stuart Orme and the Director of Photography is John Conroy who worked on The Bourne Ultimatum. The producers are Clodagh Freeman and Ralph Christians from Galway’s Magma Films.
Ken Bruen has published eight novels in the Jack Taylor series to date and has won and been nominated for numerous awards for his crime fiction. The Private Eye Writers of America presented him with the Shamus Award for The Guards in 2003.
