DOUG STANHOPE, the fearless, controversial, and provocative US comedian, will play the Laughter Lounge in the Róisín Dubh on Wednesday September 3 at 9pm.
Stanhope has been described as a free-thinking nihilist, a vulgar miseriblist, a self-indulgent, drunken washout, and a deviant misanthrope. His material ranges from true-life graphic perversion to volatile social criticism.
He is probably best known in Ireland for his 2006 appearance at the Kilkenny Cat Laughs festival where he told an audience that Irish men sleep with children, because - as the headline to one Irish tabloid put it (misreportedly ) - ‘Irish women are too ugly to rape! Comic booed after shocking festival jibe.’ He managed to perform for just 10 minutes before having all his remaining slots cancelled.
Tickets are €20/18 and available from the Róisín Dubh, Zhivago, and Redlight Records.
