Films by Galway’s DIG Productions to be screened at fleadh

THE NIGHT Nurse, a new short film from the independent Galway film and TV company, DIG Productions Ltd, will be screened at the Galway Film Fleadh this weekend.

The Night Nurse, produced by Ian W Davis and Galway Bay FM’s Garry Kelly, and directed by Terence White, will have its premiere screening at the fleadh this Saturday at 3pm in the Town Hall Theatre.

Funded by The Irish Film Board as part of the Short Shorts film scheme, The Night Nurse, starring Ger Ryan, is a psychological thriller. It tells the story of a nurse doing the graveyard shift on a psychiatric ward who searches frantically for a missing patient, only to discover the terrible truth behind the disappearance.

“This was a very exciting project to work on,” says Gary Kelly. “The director of photography was Kate McCullough, a recent award winner at the Sundance Film Festival, and cast includes the renowned Irish actress Ger Ryan. The music was composed by Brian Crosby, former member of Bell X1, who also composed the music score for our most recent feature film, Some Other Stories.”

DIG Production’s Some Other Stories is a European co-production involving Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Macedonia, Slovenia, and Ireland. It brings together five countries from the former Yugoslavia and delivers a contemporary story that looks at the consequences of war from a different perspective.

The film comprises five dramatic reflections on motherhood and was directed by five female directors from the former Yugoslavia.

The film had market screenings at the Cannes Film Festival in May and its international premiere was at the Taormina Film Festival in June. Future film festivals include the prestigious Sarajevo Film Festival and the Montreal Film Festival. Some Other Stories will also be screening at a number of other European and World Wide film festivals.

Tickets for The Night Nurse are available from the Town Hall on 091 - 569777 and www.tht.ie
