Forty special families from all over Ireland enjoyed VIP treatment in Ballinasloe at the weekend thanks to the Share a Dream Foundation.
The Carlton Shearwater Hotel in conjunction with the Ballinasloe Family fun day committee welcomed more than 160 children and adults to the town.
There they were chauffeured by road, river and air by the local Garda and Civil Defence crews.
Their fun filled schedule - which included a BBQ and variety concert with dance displays from the “Ace High Cheer” troop from Tuam - helped to make two young women’s dreams come true. Breda Kevane and Ciara Witheroe were inducted into their cheerleading troop while Martin McAleer from Tyrone fulfilled his dream of becoming a radio DJ with the help of the “i jacker” Dave O’Connor from i102-104.
The weekend concluded with a family day at the Moycarn Lodge organised by the Ballinasloe Family Fun day committee headed up by local garda sergeant Leo Kiernan. Hundreds of families gathered to raise much needed funds for The Share a Dream Foundation and Ballinasloe Social Services while enjoying activities, including climbing frames, bucking broncos and a helicopter display from the Garda air unit.
“The Share a Dream Foundation moves heaven and earth to make a dream come true for children in Ireland with life threatening illnesses,” says Christopher Harold, assistant marketing manager of the Share A Dream Foundation.
“Last weekend no less effort was made by The Carlton Shearwater Hotel & C Spa and The Family Fun Day Committee, and indeed the hundreds of volunteers who gave up their time to make this a very special weekend for all of these well deserving families.”
