“A MAN loves his girlfriend the most, his wife the best, but his mother the longest”, is an Irish proverb which both inspired and is the theme for the award winning documentary His & Hers.
His & Hers is a cinematic mosaic that tells a 90-year-old love story through the collective voice of 70 women at different stages in their lives.
This award-winning Irish documentary will be showing at the Eye Cinema from tomorrow and its director Ken Wardrop will attend the Tuesday June 22 screening and engage in a Q & A with the audience afterwards.
This intimate gender and cultural snapshot explores a woman’s relationships with the men in her life - father, boyfriend, husband, son. The story unfolds sequentially from young to old, and the characters are charmingly unabashed; while the younger contributors are animated in discussing their relationships with their other halves, the older women describe their love, and often their bereft love, with grace and candour.
His & Hers won the Audience award in the Dublin International Film Festival, The Feature Award in the Galway Film Fleadh, an IFTA for Best Feature Documentary, and the Cinematography Award at the Sundance Film Festival 2010.
