Charlie Winston to play Róisín Dubh

ENGLISH SINGER-songwriter Charlie Winston is the brother of Tom Baxter, who is also a singer-songwriter. So why do they share different surnames?

Charlie was born Charlie Winston Gleave in Cornwall in 1978. His older brother, Tom Baxter and younger sister, Vashti Anna, also use their middle name as a stage surname. Their parents gave them middles name to use as a stage name as they thought their offspring were destined for a life on stage.

Charlie lives in Paris and has enjoyed considerable success on the continent, enjoying hit singles in France, Belgium, and Austria, while his second album Hobo (2009 ) was a Top 10 hit in a number of European countries. This year he won a European Border Breakers Award for Best UK artist in Europe.

Now Charlie is taking his music to Irish and British audiences so check him out when he plays Galway next week.

Charlie Winston and his band play Strange Brew at the Róisín Dubh on Thursday June 24 at 9pm. Tickets are available from the Róisín Dubh and Zhivago.
