RSAG get ready to be right

HE WAS born Jeremy Hickey, goes under the name Rarely Seen Above Ground, which is abbreviated to RSAG, and he takes the notion of ‘the one man band’ to extreme places.

Galway audiences will have another chance to see the talented Kilkenny man, whose music goes from rock’n’roll workouts to thoughtful, melancholy, songs, when he plays the Róisín Dubh on Friday June 18 at 9pm.

Hickey plays the drums and sings. To accompany him, the rest of the music for his songs has been recorded separately and is played back at shows via tapes. Behind him is a screen featuring videos of him - in silhouette - playing all the other instruments that are being played on the tapes. So he’s there as one man and as a real and virtual band!

He released his debut album Organic Sampler in 2008. Ambitiously it was a double album and it earned high praise from the critics (“Make no mistake, it's real ‘album of the year’ territory” - Cian Ó Ciobhain, Raidio Na Gaeltactha ) as well as a Choice Music Prize nomination.

Hickey releases his second album Be It Right Or Wrong tomorrow on his own A Rare Production label. It has received four stars from Hotpress, which described the album as “wicked and sublime”.

Tickets are available from the Róisín Dubh and Zhivago. Gugai will be DJing afterwards.
