United set to host Liverpool in friendly

Galway United are set to play another English premiership side when Liverpool travel to Galway in August.

The club announced yesterday that the fixture against a Liverpool X1 will take place on Monday August 9 at 7.45pm, and is expected to feature a host of Liverpool FC’s up-and-coming stars.

United manager Sean Connor is excited by the prospect.

“It’s a fantastic game for us, took a lot of time to arrange, and we are grateful to Geoff Lockhart of SPOCS Sports Consultants for arranging the match.

“Some of the best players in the world play for Liverpool and the opportunity to see the stars of the future is an opportunity not to be missed. My own players are delighted to have the opportunity to play in such a fixture.”

United CEO Nick Leeson hopes the attraction of another big team in Galway will capture the imagination of the local sporting public.

“Sunderland came here a couple of years ago and the ground was full to the rafters. This will hopefully be the same.”

Tickets go on general sale through all Ticketmaster outlets on Friday week (June 11 ), priced at €20 (main stand ), €15 (general admission ), €10 (concession ), and €5 (children u-12 ).
