Via Dolorosa returns to the Nuns Island Theatre

MUST OUR lives in the West necessarily be shallower than those of people for whom the stakes are so much higher?”

This is the question British playwright David Hare asks in his acclaimed play Via Dolorosa, which will be staged by Decadent Theatre Co and the Galway Arts Centre in the Nuns Island Theatre this Saturday at 8pm.

In Via Dolorosa, a 50-year-old writer embarks on a journey to the then 50-year-old state of Israel. While there he has conversations with politicians, artists, settlers, and historians in Israel and Palestine. Hare explores not only the landscapes, ideologies, and emotions of the region, but his own values and beliefs, and those of Western civilisation.

The play is directed by Andrew Flynn and stars Rod Goodall. It enjoyed a successful run at the 2008 Cúirt Festival of Literature.

Tickets are €12/10. For more information contact the Galway Arts Centre, 47 Dominick Street, on 091 - 565886.
