Roads surfaces in three small towns in north Galway are in a “shocking condition” according to local county councillor, Paul Connaughton Jnr.
Cllr Connaughton this week described these roads as being no better than in a shanty town or reminiscent of scenes from the glory days of the wild west.
The issue has already been raised in the Galway County Council with Cllr Connaughton declaring that the road surfaces have become so bad in parts of villages such as Moylough, Mountbellew, and Ballygar that they now pose a serious threat to road users as “clouds of dust now raises up as traffic negotiates the broken pot hole surfaces”. Cllr Connaughton said that the Government should be ashamed for starving Galway County Council of the necessary funding to carry out such important road repair work.
“I have already sought the direct assistance of the NRA in this matter and I believe somebody will get injured if these surfaces are not improved and improved very quickly,” he said.
