John Walsh to launch new collection of poetry

CHOPPING WOOD With TS Eliot, the third collection of poems from John Walsh, will be launched in the Galway City Museum this Saturday at 1pm.

This collection gathers together 60 new poems to celebrate John’s reaching the age of 60. John’s poetry, like himself, is full of wit, mischievousness, and good humour, but there is also great compassion and empathy.

These are qualities he brought to bear in his first two collections - Johnny Tell Them (2006 ) and Love’s Enterprise Zone (20007 ) - and they will no doubt be felt again in this new and appealingly titled work.

John was born in Derry in 1950. He taught English in Germany for many years before moving to Co Galway in 1989. His poems have been published in Ireland, Britain, and Austria and he has read and performed his poems at events in Ireland, Britain, Germany, and Sweden. He is a songwriter and also the organiser and MC of the successful performance poetry event North Beach Poetry Nights in The Crane Bar.

Chopping Wood with TS Eliot is published by Salmon Poetry. The collection will be officially launched by Michael Gorman. All are welcome.
