IT IS the month of May and officially summertime, so why not welcome in the new season at the Summer Airs concert in the Town Hall Theatre on Friday May 14 at 8pm.
Summer Airs will see singers Bryan Hoey, Annette Griffin, Simon Morgan, Deirdre Curley, and musicians, Mairin Fahy and Chris Kelly perform songs by Stephen Foster, Bizet, Percy French, Donizetti, Thomas Moore, Elton John, and Charlie Chaplain. The musical director is Pauline Cooper.
Bryan Hoey, is one of Ireland’s most versatile singers. At 18 he won the Joseph O’Meara Cup in the Dublin Feis Ceoil and he also recorded the soundtrack for the Joseph Locke story, Hear My Song.
Galwegian Annette Griffin is an internationally acclaimed singer/harpist and a resident performer at Ashford Castle. She has played for former US president Bill Clinton and for former French president Jacques Chirac.
Baritone Simon Morgan, toured with Anuna and Riverdance and he has performed alongside Placido Domingo, James Galway, The Chieftains, and Phil Coulter. He has also had roles in The Merry Widow, The Silver Tassie, and Sweeney Todd.
Fiddler Mairin Fahy is best know for her Trad On The Prom shows and she is a much admired traditional musician. Singer Deirdre Curley is a former member of the Trinity College Choral Society. She is now a member of the award winning Ancor Chamber Choir Limerick.
Summer Airs is a Galway Percy French Society Presentation.
