GALWAY CITY’S inaugural fashion week - The Fashion Fiesta - kicks off on Monday and runs until Friday, and aims to lay the basis for an annual May fashion extravaganza.
The show is a partnership of the fashion studio students at the GTI and the city’s boutiques. All fundraising during the fiesta will go to Cancer Care West.
The fiesta starts on Monday with shows at Born, Newtownsmith, at 1.30pm and 2.30pm, involving some 20 outfits and award-winning student work.
Tuesday sees the official launch of the fiesta at the Galway City Museum. The museum will host a collection of student window designs to run until May 17. There will also be a T-shirt design competition for local charities at the Eyre Square Shopping Centre.
On Wednesday the action moves to Zebra at Eyre Square with fashion shows at 1.30pm and 2.30pm, including 20 outfits and student work.
On Thursday May 13, The Mad Hatters Tea Party takes place in Busker Browns. A group of Galway milliners will showcase their imaginative designs for hats and headpieces. All are invited to wear their best hats and have some afternoon tea at 3pm, with a prize on offer for the best-dressed woman.
On Friday 14 at 6.30pm the fiesta finale takes place at the Spanish Arch. There will be more than 50 outfits and student creations on display as well as live music and DJs.
