THE GREAT Swiss pianist Andreas Haefliger will dazzle Galway audiences with performances of Mozart, Wagner, Liszt, and Schubert, at the Hotel Meyrick on Tuesday May 4 at 8pm.
The concert, entitled Purely Piano, includes two of Mozart’s best known sonatas - Sonata in C major, K.330 and Sonata in A KV 331 - the finale of one being the Rondo AllaTurca, a piece almost everyone will be familiar with.
Haefliger will have the chance to show off his virtuosity with the Liszt variations on Wagner’s Isoldes Liebestod, while Schubert’s very last piano sonata, Piano Sonata in B flat major D960, will round off the evening.
Described by The Guardian as “one to take risks, which make him a fascinating artist”, Haefliger studied at the Juilliard School in New York. With his formidable technique and musicality and his innate sense of phrasing, he was quickly recognised as a pianist of the first rank.
He has established himself as a superb recitalist and is a frequent performer at the Lucerne and Salzburg festivals, the BBC Proms, and the Wiener Festwochen.
Tickets are €20/16/6 from Music for Galway (091 - 705962 ); Opus II, The Cornstore; and the Town Hall on www.tht.ie The next Music For Galway concert is clarinet player Paul Roe with ConTempo on May 13.
