A 38-year-old Galway man accused of raping and sexually assaulting his niece has been sent forward for trial.
The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is charged with seven counts of raping a minor and three counts of sexually assaulting her on dates unknown between September 1, 2004, and February 28, 2005.
Garda Ailish Hynes told the Galway District Court last Monday that the book of evidence had been served on the accused before the court sitting.
Inspector Mick Coppinger said that all the counts will be included and that the Director of Public Prosecutions has consented to the man being sent forward for trial at the Central Criminal Court.
Judge Mary Fahy gave the man the alibi warning and remanded him on continuing bail to return for trial at the present sittings of the Central Criminal Court. Legal aid was also granted.
