Galway composer to represent Ireland in Australia

Galway composer Jane O’Leary will represent Ireland at the 2010 ISCM World New Music Days festival in Sydney, Australia.

Ms O’Leary’s saxophone quartet ‘Riverrun’, written for Holland’s Amstel Quartet, will be performed by the Sydney Conservatorium Saxophone ensemble at 1pm on Monday May 3, as part of a concert to be broadcast live across Australia on ABC Classic FM.

The festival programme will present 82 works which were selected from a submission of more than 700 pieces.

Ms O’Leary’s ‘Riverrun’ was premiered in the Netherlands in December 2008. Previous performances of her work have taken place in Carnegie Hall and the Lincoln Centre in New York; the Kennedy Centre, Washington DC; and in the Hugh Lane Gallery in Dublin. She is currently working on a piece commissioned by New York based pianist Isabelle O’Connell.
