New air service launches from Galway

A new air service between Galway and Cork has been announced this week. Manx2.com will begin the new air service between the two cities from Friday July 2, operating twice daily return flights from Monday to Friday. Fares will start from €29.95 each way (including taxes & charges ).

This new service is the Isle of Man-based airline’s first in Ireland.

At Galway Airport this week, Manx2 chairmn Noel Hayes said the company had “great confidence” in the future for the Irish economy.

“We are delighted to bring our award-winning service to both Galway and Cork. With 14 flights per week to Cork we will improve connectivity between Galway and the west and Cork and Kerry, bringing each of the regions’ many attractions within easy reach for everyone.

“Manx2.com has carefully planned its flight schedule to and from Cork to suit all passengers, whether they are travelling on business or leisure.”

Galway Airport chairman Michael Corless said the new service further opened up regional air access within the island of Ireland.

“ The schedule for this new service is in response to market demand for day return business trips, as well as weekend breaks in either Galway or Cork.”

Galway Airport managing director Joe Walsh said the new service was a result of the airport’s strategy to focus on routes that linked Galway and the wider region with major urban centres and international airports by offering a “convenient, frequent, reliable and quality service to suit both business and leisure travellers”.

“Another benefit of this new double daily service to Cork Airport is that it further expands on the connectivity options available from Galway Airport for the business community with access to destinations like Amsterdam, Barcelona, Geneva and Paris.”

Passengers will have a choice of 28 flights per week to and from Cork at times to suit the day return business traveller or for week-end breaks away in either city. Manx2.com is currently ensuring the appropriate bonding and registrations are in place with the Commission for Aviation Regulation before services commence. Manx2.com was launched in 2006 and is based at Ronaldsway Airport in the Isle of Man. It currently carries 100,000 passengers a year with services from the Isle of Man to Blackpool, Belfast, Leeds Bradford, East Midlands, Newcastle, Gloucester and Jersey.

In November 2009 it was voted Isle of Man’s best small company for the second time in three years. Employing 60 staff, it has a fleet of seven aircraft, providing up to 30 flights a day to the Isle of Man.
