Celebrate International Record Store Day in Galway

The record store was once the focus of youth life. It was the place to hang out and discuss music with your friends. For those a bit older it was a place to browse in detail as you hoped that hard to find album just might appear before you.

The magic of buying and experiencing music on a physical form you can hold in your hand, with accompanying artwork in a larger, detailed, format (CD, vinyl, or even cassette ) is dying as downloads take over.

However the traditional record store is refusing to go gently into oblivion - after all nobody could have predicted the vinyl comeback when the format seemed to die a death in the 1990s - and so International Record Store Day will be held across Ireland, including in Zhivago in Galway, this Saturday.

The event is an opportunity for the public to appreciate and support independently owned businesses in Galway. Special vinyl and CD releases and various promotional products will be exclusively available for the day. Check in with your local stores, find out what they will have, tell them what you want, and get there early.
