Clifden town will hold it’s first traditional music festival from Friday April 23 to Sunday 25, organised by Clifden Comhaltas.
The festival will be officially launched on Friday 23 at 7pm in the Clifden Station House Hotel. This will be followed by a concert of local and visiting musicians, singers and dancers, with special guest the sean nós dancer Emma O’Sullivan. Friday will also see pub music sessions from 10pm in Lowrys and the Central Bar.
On Saturday from 11am to 1pm in the Alcock and Brown Hotel there will be a fiddle and accordion workshop with Michael Curran and Yvonne Kane and a sean nós dance workshop with Emma O Sullivan. These cost of each class is €10 per person and registration takes place on the day.
At 1pm in the Alcock and Brown Bar there will be a youth session. There will music sessions in Guys Bar from 3pm to 5pm and in Vaughans Bar from 5pm to 7pm. There will be an outdoor show at the square at 8pm from the Cunningham family, who will give an exuberant display of traditional dances. There will be music sessions in Lowrys, Mannions, and Tom Kings from 10pm.
On Sunday at 11am there will be a traditional music Mass in St Joseph’s Church, followed by the Farewell - One for the Road session in Foyles Hotel at 1pm.
