Gardaí have arrested two men following the discovery of a skimming device in Portumna at the weekend.
The men were stopped by gardaí when they were observed acting suspiciously close to the Bank of Ireland in the town at 8.45am last Sunday. The men were found to be in possession of what is believed to a skimming device used to gather card details from unsuspecting ATM users, and were subsequently arrested.
The men, both foreign nationals in their early thirties with addresses in the Portumna area, were brought to Loughrea Garda station and questioned under the Theft and Fraud Offences Act. Both were later released without charge and the device has been sent to the Garda Forensic Unit for examination.
A file on the incident is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
