Galway magazine is nominated for major award

The Galway-based music magazine The Journal of Music has been shortlisted for the USA based 2010 Utne Independent Press Awards.

The bimonthly, international magazine of music and ideas is edited by Toner Quinn and based in An Spidéal.

The Utne awards survey more than 1,300 independent magazines from all around the world. The Journal of Music is the first Irish magazine to be nominated. The magazine, which has been supported by the Arts Council since it was founded, now has readers in 22 countries.

Over the past year The Journal of Music has published contributions from composer Bill Whelan, choral conductor Paul Hillier, poet and novelist Ciaran Carson, traditional musician Tony MacMahon, and US minimalist composer Tom Johnson
