Tigh Standún to celebrate a changing of the guard

Tigh Standún in An Spidéal will celebrate Clíodhna Standún taking over from her father Dónall as manager tomorrow by having a sale and seeing Raidió na Gaeltachta broadcast from the shop.

There will be 20 per cent off all new stock in the shop, refreshments for the customers, a prize draw, and Raidió na Gaeltachta’s Seán Bán Breathnach will be broadcasting his afternoon show SBB Tráthnóna live from Tigh Standún from 2pm.

SBB will be speaking to Clíodhna and to her father, as well as her mother Raymonde, about the new challenges, as well as to brother Tommy, a journalist and broadcaster who is now living in Austria. There will be live music from Dearbhaill Standún of Dordán and poetry from Seán Ó Coisdealbha.

The Standún’s craft shop is situated just east of An Spidéal and attracts hundreds of tourists every year. It was established in 1946 by Máirtín Standún. Originally it was a supermarket and petrol station but under the stewardship of Dónall Standún it changed direction, becoming a clothing and craft shop which is now a well-known landmark on the coast road.
