IBEC encourages employers to attend seminar on disputes and claims

IBEC West has announced plans to host a free seminar for businesses about employment disputes and claims called ‘Minimising risk in today’s turbulent business environment’at the Westwood House Hotel in Galway on Thursday next, March 25.

IBEC West regional director John Brennan said employers are now three times more likely to have an employee take a claim against them.

It estimates that the cost to employers of employment rights cases in 2008 was at least €8 million, and the National Employment Rights Authority (NERA ) recovered more than €2.5 million from employers for employees in 2009.

“I encourage employers and members of the business community to attend this event, which will give an insight into how best to manage the rise in employee claims,” he said.

“ Businesses will learn how to evaluate the risks associated with an employee’s claim, and even more importantly, will get insights about how to avoid an employee taking a claim in the first place.” he said.
