Galway journalist’s best seller on legend to feature on Nationwide

A successful biography of country music legend Larry Cunningham, penned by Galway journalist Tom Gilmore, will form the centrepiece of a Nationwide special on RTE 1, next Wednesday, March 24.

This segment of the popular TV show will be presented by journalist and broadcaster Mary Fanning. Featuring interviews with Larry in the home he shares with his wife Beatrice near Granard, Co Longford, the filming culminated with a sold-out concert by Larry, Louise Morrissey and John Hogan at The Ardhowen Theatre, Enniskillen. Interest in Cunningham has soared since the publication of Tom Gilmore’s book late last year.

It will feature some archive footage of Larry Cunningham on other TV shows during his 50 years in the music business as well as some footage of him singing at various locations around Ireland. Among those interviewed are Fr Brian D'arcy, and Tom Gilmore who wrote the book Larry Cunningham - A Showband Legend which has been a sell-out success since it was launched last November.

Mr Gilmore is currently penning a uniquely intimate biography of the popular singing duo Foster & Allen — a book that is set to be released simultaneously on four continents early next year. One of the foremost experts on country music in the country, Tom Gilmore presents the Country Crossroads show on Galway Bay fm every Wednesday night, as well as being one of the region’s best known and most popular news journalists.
