Hyundai’s new ix35 brings SUV styling and more

Hyundai’s ix35 is a new stylish crossover which is on the way in the spring, replacing the Tuscon which has been about since 2004. The ix35 is a real alternative for buyers considering more conventional motoring such as a spacious hatchback.

A combination of a promised competitive price, economical running costs and good residuals mean that the ix35 is likely to cost less to run than some mainstream family cars and MPVs with comparable engines.

With an overall footprint that is similar to many C-segment hatchbacks, the latest Hyundai SUV will have the broadest appeal to consumers, making it a rival for vehicles outside the regular compact SUV sector.

Although the new ix35 has a sporty coupe-like appearance and an athletic stance, it maintains high levels of practicality, with increased headroom and legroom in the five-seater cabin and a significantly larger cargo bay. Longer, wider and lower than its predecessor, the ix35’s wheelbase is stretched by 10mm to 2640mm.

The main competitor is the car that defines the C sub-segment - the Nissan Qashqai. It will also target the like of the Ford Kuga, VW Tiquan, and the Peugeot 3008. And Hyundai expects the new ix35 will attract thousands of first-time Hyundai buyers

Hyundai promises that the ix35 range will have equipment levels better than rivals. The entry-level ix35 will include such features as 17-inch alloy wheels, ESP, manual air conditioning (with glovebox cooling ), built-in Bluetooth phone connectivity, electric heated and folding door mirrors, roof several front, side and curtain airbags, downhill/uphill brake assist, and a full size alloy wheel.

What’s more, all ix35s are backed up by Hyundai’s new five-years unlimited mileage warranty and a 10-year anti-perforation corrosion warranty. Hyundai says that means the ix35 should remain as appealing as new for years to come.

The 2.0CRDi style 2WD will be the big seller of the range. And the ix35 range will be made even stronger this autumn when two new smaller engines join the range – a 1.6 petrol with direct injection technology and a new 1.7 diesel (115bhp ), to rival supermini emissions and fuel economy.

Despite the recent and ongoing global economic difficulties, Hyundai anticipates the market for C-segment SUVs in Europe will grow by almost 10 per cent annually over the next five years as customers downsize or enjoy greater recreational time.

The Hyundai ix35 is designed to meet the driving requirements and dynamic lifestyles of European motorists and their families. It offers more style, more space, more equipment and new high-tech features, while its low emissions powertrains reduce fuel consumption, improve SUV eco-credentials and demonstrate Hyundai’s respect for improving the impact that cars have on the environment.
