A fundraising art demonstration by locally based artist Marja van Kampen will take place at the Kenny Gallery, Liosban on Saturday March 20.
Tickets are limited to 110 for this event - the second in a series of art demonstrations - which is in aid of Cancer Care West.
Ms van Kampen, who is originally from the Netherlands, will demonstrate her painting style which is influenced by the changing light of Galway Bay and the rich colours of southern India.
After an invitation from friends she travelled to Ireland, eventually settling in Galway in 1982. Here she has lived since, always within walking distance of the sea, where the changing light has had an influence on the colours and themes of her work. But it was later when she travelled to India that she found the true inspiration for her paintings.
She practices meditation and has regularly spend time in an ashram in the south of India, a peaceful place with warm rich colours and a culture which filled her with motivation.
She has received many grants, scholarships and awards - the most recent a travel award from the Arts Council to study American expressionistic painters in New York in the major museums and galleries.
Commenting on the initiative, Conor Kenny of The Kenny Gallery says it has been priviliged to display her work throughout the years.

Inis Aoibhinn, its 30 bedded residential facility on the grounds of University Hospital Galway, provides accommodation to patients receiving radiotherapy and their families. It opened in March 2007 and provides a home from home environment for patients. It is operating at full capacity and Cancer Care West is currently fundraising for a 20 bed extension to meet increasing demand for these services.
The Cancer Support Centre at 72 Seamus Quirke Road offers a wide range of services including a five-day drop-in service. Individual appointments are available for clinical and psychological counselling; information on benefits and entitlements; reflexology and massage; and breast care fitting services.
A variety of courses are offered on topics including stress management, living with cancer, mindfulness, expressive art and expressive writing.
The centre facilitates patient, carer and bereavement support groups and hosts Breast Life and the Brain Tumour support groups.
