All school children to be offered swine flu jab by end of month

All school children will have been offered the swine flu vaccination by the completion of the programme in the west at the end of the month, according to the HSE West.

The health authority says the schools vaccination programme is continuing with teams going to larger schools around the county.

“Smaller schools have been invited to attend the mass vaccination clinic that currently provides services on Wednesdays and Thursdays weekly.’

Meanwhile the general programme has now moved into its final phase with the vaccine being made available to the general population through vaccination clinics nationwide.

“Anyone in the target groups (with long-term medical conditions like lung and heart disease, pregnant women, etc. ) who has not yet been vaccinated is advised to come to a HSE clinic for their vaccine before March 31. In addition, any members of the general public who have not yet been offered vaccine may now come to a HSE clinic.”

The remaining vaccination clinics at Merlin Park University Hospital will take place today (Thursday ), on Wednesday and Thursday, March 10 and 11, on Thursday March 18, Wednesday 24, Thursday 25 and on Wednesday 31.

A small group of people will require two doses of the vaccine (those who are immunosuppressed, etc. ) and the last date to get the first of the two doses is Wednesday March 10.

Appointments for the clinic dates above can be booked online at www.swineflu.ie or by calling 1800 28 30 33
